Abstract

This article analyses the household reproduction strategies of a beekeeper community in the State of Morelos to explain the role of migration to Canada in these communities. Through fieldwork data collection examined by the genealogical method, we compared two beekeeper generations where significant differences were found. While for some, migration is a “strategic resource” that allows them to continue their agricultural production and increase their family patrimony in their place of origin, for others, it is a “survival tactic” with a higher dependency on income. All of this illustrates a continuous history of proletarianization of households since the middle of the 20th century.
