The article addresses the analysis of media discourses on human mobility in Uruguay during 2018, based on Abdemalek Sayad's premises regarding the national/state dimension in defining migration. Its objective is to understand the representation of migrant individuals and migration policy in the context of economic transformations in Uruguay, framed within a transnational social space. The methodology included a qualitative approach. These pieces from three newspapers and two leading weeklies in Uruguay were examined from the perspective of critical discourse analysis. In conclusion, the results were related to Sayad's State Thinking, showing its relevance in understanding migrations as a phenomenon that encompasses those who move and connect territories, as well as those who remain and receive them, "defending" their belongings and identities.
