Abstract

Contemporary migration is not a linear or progressive process; rather, it embodies the complexity of the concept of mobility, as moving involves much more than simply traveling from one point to another. It is an act imbued with meaning, significance, and transgression, just as it is the act of not wanting or being unable to move. In this regard this study analyzes transit migration through the case of a Cuban migrant in transit through Culiacán, Sinaloa, exploring the concepts of mobility, structure-agency, and migratory social networks. The research is conducted using a qualitative approach, with a biographical methodology and the life history technique, demonstrating how structure, at its different levels, shapes the migratory trajectory. Furthermore, it highlights that migrants are agents that build social networks based on their culture and identity.
