Deep Scars on the Territory-bodies: Theoretical Construction From the Perspective of Communication and Critical Geography

This work started from the idea that Haitians in Mexico City, when they settle in a place, make it their own to some degree as a cultural space, meaning they use it to express themselves and it has meaning for them. In this context, different interactions, communications, and social practices occur, the essence of which is internalized by the subjects and amalgamated with the values and beliefs inherited from their ancestors and their life history. Thus, from the perspective of critical geography, an example is shown of the importance of reconstructing a fragment of history from the point of view of the Haitian people themselves, as their experiences give rise to a facet of their culture, now in Mexico City. The objective is to explore the significance of these actors in the face of hegemonic powers and, therefore, how they generate responses and resistance as a social group in a foreign, different territory that expels or marginalizes them.
