Profiles and academic interests of young return migrants: admission to the Universidad Veracruzana 2017-2018

Return migration in Mexico has permeated the Mexican education system over the last two decades and represents an important social reality. Young returning migrants constitute a significant group within school dynamics and classrooms at different levels of education. This exploratory article, resulting from a broader research, analyses young return migrants who entered the Universidad Veracruzana in 2017 and 2018 to pursue higher education. It highlights the most popular academic fields and undergraduate degree programs among this cohort. A comparison of these results shows that areas such as Humanities, Economics, Technical Subjects and Health Sciences are among the most common, reflecting the diverse academic interests of these young people. This article aims to contribute to research on return migration, particularly studies that focus on monitoring the higher education of return migrants in Mexico.
