Abstract

The objective of this article is to analyze the transformations that occurred in migration and border control from the incorporation of new identification and surveillance technologies in Argentina during the period 2003-2015. The method selected for this work is based on a qualitative approach, whose central instrument is the collection of documents, including laws, decrees, resolutions, reports of state agencies, periodical publications, online videos and journalistic interviews. In addition, the documentary work is complemented by interviews and informal conversations with officials from the National Directorate of Migration. The text states that new technologies provoke transformations in migratory control, although the objective remains the classification and selection of migration based on the distinction between «regular» and «irregular». Finally, it warns about the need to deepen this line of research.
