Abstract

The objective of this article is to discover if there is a higher incidence of intentional homicides perpetrated against foreigners in Mexican territory in border areas. For this, I used the death statistics of the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI), locating the homicides of foreigners at state and municipal level in the 2012-2021 period. I discovered that the 13 municipalities with the highest number of homicides of foreigners are in border states and 10 of them have direct border with another country, in addition to concentrating 40.56% of all homicides of foreigners registered. Likewise, the homicide rate of foreigners per 100 000 inhabitants of each state was calculated and it is concluded that of the eight states with homicides of foreigners above the national average, 7 have international borders and 5 of those are outliers.
