Honduran women living with HIV in Mexico: mobility, adherence and the continuum of violence

Abstract

This article presents an investigation that aimed to analyze the case of two Honduran migrant women living with HIV and in an irregular situation during their transit through Mexico, based on their stories, which include their diagnosis, search for care and access to medications in their places of origin and in Mexico. By means of a qualitative and inductive methodology, through an ethnographic approach that favored accompanying the women to various care sites and conducting semi-structured interviews. The analysis included the notions of structural and gender violence, continuum of violence and intersectionality. Recommendations are provided based on the findings in the contexts of departure and transit, in order to provide care with a gender and human rights approach.
