Abstract

The article addresses discussions about the externalization of European borders in West Africa, emphasizing the discussion about whether the free movement of migrants in the region is possible as established by existing regulations in the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS). The methodological strategies used were: field work, observations and semi-structured interviews. Through them, migrant voices and first-hand information were collected through social organizations and academics from various universities linked to the subject. Through this survey, it was possible to account for the various strategies that are put into play to face the necro-border and the criminalization of mobility.
