The 2019 migration crisis in Mexico and Ecuador and the violation of migrant rights: between the Law and political interests
Keywords:
law, migration, political conflicts, Mexico, EcuadorAbstract
The article shows the existence of contradictions between national and international legal regulations and the state responses in Mexico and Ecuador to the migratory crises of 2019. The analysis is carried out from a qualitative methodology and a descriptive approach based on a documentary review. The issue is justified in the context of large migratory waves in Latin America in 2019. Among the main results is that Mexico and Ecuador carried out, in this context, actions contrary to the principles established in their legal systems and in their political programmatic documents. In the case of Mexico, there is evidence of subordination to pressure from the United States. In the case of Ecuador, the effects of the migratory decisions of neighboring countries are reflected in their own position and political actions. The actions to which both countries were compelled determined violations of the rights of migrants.
