The invisibility of migrant women in transit along the Mexican Pacific Route
Keywords:
Migrant women, migration in transit, gender violence, Mexican Pacific RouteAbstract
This article analyzes the situation of Mexican and Central American migrant women in transit and shows a preliminary diagnosis in order to document and add to in-transit migration studies, by studying the survival strategies they use during their journey through Mazatlán, Sinaloa (municipality that is part of the Mexican Pacific Route). Seven in-depth interviews are applied to migrant women in transit and it is concluded that patriarchal structural violence is present throughout their journey, so they must carry out their own survival strategies due to insecurity and lack of protection by the inmigration authorities of Mexico and Central American countries.
