Job access of venezuelan migrants in Argentina and Chile: perspectives on obstacles and strategies

Abstract

In recent years, the Venezuelan migratory flow to Latin American countries has garnered the interest of researchers, particularly in Argentina and Chile, who have explored this migration from a labor perspective. This article reviews the academic literature addressing the access to employment of this population, highlighting findings on the obstacles to their labor market insertion. The study examines the gaps between regulations and public policies that regulate labor market access and the strategies employed by Venezuelan migrants to obtain favorable employment conditions. The review includes a comparative analysis of articles, reports, and theses on labor market access in Argentina and Chile. The results suggest that, despite belonging to the same migrant group, the particularities of each country’s macroeconomic, social, regulatory, and cultural contexts influence the specifics of the employment access processes.
