Abstract

In the present a phenomenon emerges that deserves critical and purposeful reflection. We refer to a new era of human mobility, in which labor migration, forced displacement and refugee requests converge. These manifestations have an origin: the violence generated by capitalism in its globalizing phase. This set of manifestations have in common the extreme precariousness both in origin and in transit. The lack of protection of migrants is such that they have decided to undertake new strategies, such as mass migration, known as caravans. The response of the governments of Mexico and the United States has been to toughen the containment and deportation measures. This article analyzes the meaning of the conjunction of the Central American caravans, restraint measures and anti-immigrant policies in the Trump era.
