Abstract

This article proposes some critical reflections on the current situation of the transnational migration boom in Latin America. The concept of “sustaining life” is used as a key category to understand the agency of migrants when they disobey the “global border regime” as we could see in the recent Central American migrant caravans through Mexico (October 2018 to date). These caravans provided collective security to the most vulnerable groups such as single mothers, grandmothers and unaccompanied minors This analytical proposal is situated in the discussion about the autonomy of migrations, the inalienable right of mobility and the subjectivity of migrant living work, as anchors that provide a critical perspective on the transformations of the neoliberal capitalism of the 21st century.
