The legislative impact of anti-trafficking policies on the practice of prostitution of migrant women in the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires, Argentina

Abstract

The practice of female prostitution has undergone in recent decades processes of industrialization and globalization (Jeffreys, 2009), rekindling feminist disputes in terms of coercion / autonomy and legislative debates around the State recognition of this activity. In this context, the present work tries to analyze the ways in which the legislative progress that the Argentine State has made in the last decades, which implied the taking of legal measures and the implementation of control devices, destined to the fight against trafficking in persons with sexual exploitation purposes; It impacted on the dynamics and development of the practice of prostitution in the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires, Argentina. Focusing particularly on the ways in which this process generated specific modifications in the practices of migrant women inserted in said activity, reinforcing situations of vulnerability.
